Academy Rules

Fencing rules prioritize safety to prevent injuries or accidents. A well-executed attack, even with energy, feels akin to a tap on the shoulder. Safety measures include proper warm-up and realistic training goals, crucial in minimizing risks inherent in the dynamic sport of fencing.

  • Protective Gear and Equipment:

Always wear a mask, jacket, under plastron, chest protection, long pants, and gloves during fencing (350 NW and above). Academy gear is available for the first 3 months; afterward, fencers should acquire their own.

  • Respectful Handling of Swords:

Treat fencing swords with respect, carrying them point down. Never point a sword at others unless fully masked and ready to fence.

  • Masked Posture During Sword Handling:

Always be masked when swords are raised, pointing forward, even during discussions and drills.

  • Controlled Actions and No Violence:

Avoid violent fencing actions; control parries and attacks to prevent injury. No body contact or use of the unarmed hand. Never turn your back on an opponent.

  • Immediate Stop for Safety Concerns:

Halt fencing instantly if sensing an issue or if the opponent signals a desire to stop.

  • Equipment Inspection and Reporting:

Inspect swords and masks before each use; report issues promptly. Academy gear should be returned after training for regular maintenance.

  • Respectful Venue Entry and Exit:

Enter and exit the venue respectfully, adhering to the training schedule.

  • Prompt and Respectful Responses:

Respond promptly and respectfully to coaches' requests or directions.

  • Saluting Rituals:

Salute opponent, referee, and audience before and after every bout.

  • Proper Handling of Academy Equipment:

Return academy-owned gear after training; place equipment neatly during breaks. Seek coach's permission for borrowing.

  • Encouragement, No Poor Sportsmanship:

Encourage fellow fencers; avoid name-calling and unsportsmanlike behavior.

  • Cleanliness and Safety:

Discourage food and beverages near the fencing floor. Maintain a clean, safe environment during training.

  • Learning from Competition:

Acknowledge the competitive nature of fencing; learn from victories and defeats. Develop sportsmanship, resilience, and mental toughness.

  • Championship Participation Responsibility:

The academy's management and coaching team are responsible for fencer inscriptions to championships; parents and fencers must comply with decisions regarding participation.

  • Waiting Room Etiquette:

Parents should wait in the designated area during training, avoiding walking between practicing fencers.

If these rules are adhered to, we ensure a secure, enjoyable, and focused environment for fencers and coaches to thrive in their practice
